| A great present that needs a warning |
I had my 42nd birthday on the 4th of December. The only real relevance of this to the 40th site is that it means that it is just over two years since I built this site for my 40th birthday.
For my birthday I got a great present which will make my hobby of swimming that little bit more enjoyable. I swim 1 1/2 miles every two days at a local health club (my one luxury), and have the idea of entering an open water swimming race or two next year. To wile away the lengths I was bought a waterproof mp3 player and the latest CD from the Black Eyed Peas. |

This was and is a great present apart from the glaringly obvious lack of a safety warning on the box. If peanuts need a sign in Tescos telling you they may contain nuts and Dairy Milk chocolate helpfully tells you that their chocolate contains milk, I see no reason why a warning sign telling you that singing while swimming could be dangerous for your health should not be on my mp3 player.
 | There I was on my second length with the music on full blast, when I decide an attempt at singing along to the rapping on track 3 would be a great idea - Not a good idea as I found out!!. Five words in and my mouth and throat are full of water, I am coughing and spluttering and wondering if I am going to need the well trained services of the rather attractive young lifeguard who sits and watches our endevours! |
It is at this at this point that I look up and see said attractive lifeguard looking at me. Let me tell you, by the look on her face she was at that point wishing she had taken the job serving at MacDonalds instead of training to be a lifeguard. The idea of hauling my 17 stone body out of the swimming pool and giving me the kiss of life was quite noticably not on her wishlist of things to do at that particular juncture of her life.
It was with great relief to me, and said lifeguard, that within a few seconds I was feeling well enough to knock out another 98 lengths with the new found knowledge that singing while swimming is not advisable and both our days carried on as normal.
So there we are Speedo. Your Aquabeat mp3 player is a great present for anybody who wants a bit of musical encouragement while swimming, but maybe consider that warning sticker to save any other wouldbe rapper the same fate.
