What can I buy as a 40th birthday present for someone
who likes a bit of a drink now and then?
I had a lady contact me asking this question a month or so ago and helped her with some ideas as to what to buy. The birthday boy was a friend but no incredibly close and other than the fact that they liked a drink and especially a glass of red wine, did not really know of any other hobbies or pastimes that she could use for an idea.

She said that she would like to spend around £30.00 and asked for any ideas.

The first idea that I found came from the Gadget Shop. It was an electric corkscrew that would allow the birthday boy to get in to that bottle of red wine - or white, rose etc. - with the minimum of fuss.

It even had a trendy blue charging light and was £34.99. You can see it here.

Another great gift they had was the Magic Chain Wine Holder. People will not only believe that the bottle is suspended in mid-air but will also think that it is pulling a chain. They will be seriously wondering if they have had a little bit too much of that wine when they see this neat pressie. At £19.99 it was also well in budget with enough left over for the bottle of wine to sit in it. Have a look yourself here.
Other great gifts that were related to drink included and Combination Bottle Lock to keep an open bottle of his prized tipple safe at £13.99, a Fridge Magnet Bottle Opener so he would always be able to open a beer without rummaging around the kitchen drawers at at £14.99, a Shot Glass Chess Set that allows you to enjoy a good game of chess whether you are winning or losing at £12.99.

Now it would not be right to offer 40th birthday present ideas for a man that likes a drink and savours a nice bottle of red wine to not offer ideas for a good bottle.

I had to be honest and am not a wine drinker so took advice from Majestic Wine. They recommended a bottle of McGuigan Handmade Shiraz 2006 Langhorne Creek at £22.00 and two bottles for £36.00 giving a very generous discount of £4.00 per bottle.

Langhorne Creek is a premium wine growing region of South Australia on the Fleurieu Peninsula near Adelaide. Located on the banks of Lake Alexandrina, where the River Murray flows into the sea, rich fertile soils make this an outstanding grape growing region, particularly for red varieties. With this in mind, a good bottle of red it sounded.

The Majestic website has 400 different red wines to choose from and the choice can be made either by countries such as France, South Africa, Spain etc. or by grape variety. The birthday boy is sure to love one of the red wines here.
Now there are definate times when a lovely bottle of red wine are the order of the day. With a delicious meal or for a cosy night in, both times suit a decent claret. That said there are aslo times when the birthday bot is gonna want a beer!

There is nothing better than sitting down to a good game of footie, the boxing or the Playstation with a beer and munchies and this gift from Clearview Hampers offers all that is needed to make it extra special.

Four bottles of premium lager, a tasty tub of Yorkshire crisps, delightfully thin Spanish crackers perfectly accompanied by a sweet chilli relish and red pepper and tomato dip, roasted cashews and lip smacking chilli puffs, perfect, just perfect. What a great gift and costing only £28.15, buy it here.

Other great hampers are also available at Clearview Hampers.
Now I know that this next gift was swaying a little from what I had been asked to give ideas on. Not at all related to drink but still extremey tasty.

I think anybody that is around the age of 40 will remember school tuck shops and newsagents and all the penny sweets that you could buy. Actually, you could get 3 Black Jacks for a penny if I remember right!

It is damn hard to find most of the sweets around at the time but a company called A Quarter Of... who specialise in nostalgia and retro sweets have filled a massive jar of them to bring the memories flooding back.

Now I am not saying this is exactly healthy but there are times when you just have to enjoy life and a couple of hours in front of the telly with this jar will surely give our birthday boy a smile - and a little indigestion if he is too greedy! Check out this and the other sweets available - Click here to enjoy.
Another of the companies that I sell alot of 40th gifts through is Getting Personal. They offer a wide range of gifts and in particular offer some really nice personalised gifts that I thought the birthday boy might like.

The first of these is a Personalised Red Wine with Gift Box. This gift contains a 75cl bottle of Vin De Pays Red Wine and is displayed in a beautiful, silk lined presentation case. It can be personalised with any name, along with a message of your choice and is sure to stand out on his wine rack! This gift only costs £24.95 and can be found here.

Another great personalised gift for the birthday boy could be a personalised beer and wine crate. It comes empty and can be used indoors or outside by the BBQ. It looks great and will be seen as a unique gift that really shows a bit of thought. At £39.95 it is also around budget and can be seen here.
Above are a number of the best suggestions I could come up with for this 40 year old to be. I will add some of the others soon and let you know what was bought.
