So Am I Old? | I had my birthday just over a week ago. I was 43 years old and got some great pressies such as a new mobile phone, little video camera and a bean bag as my old one seems to have run out of beans - where do they go? A question for another post maybe.
So 43 is 3 years older than 40. Another 3 years and I will be closer to 50 than 40 and 1 more year and I will be officially in my mid 40s. But am I old?
Looking through the internet for answers I came up with a few websites - some funny, some serious, and some quite scary! when looking for any answer.
In 2003 the Guardian offered up 40 things about being 40.
Now I know this way 8 years ago but they felt that I should not like to hear mobile phones go off, feel that texting had passed me by, think about death regularly and argue with the telly along with 36 other little gems.
If I didnt text I wouldnt speak to my nephews and I dont argue with the telly, I argue with any sod that joins in on Facebook about pretty much everything and then make them my friend! Oh how times have changed, but I can sort of see where the Guardain was coming from.
A much more up-to-date webpage was the 2nd December poll from Yahoo Answers: Do you consider the age 40 as being young or old?
From the 24 people that have posted a reply only one said it was young, although one did helpfully say young to old people and another said it was still young but was 40 themselves.
Five people said quite polite things but obviously consider it a little old and then their was "Sweet K Monday" who said 35 was middle aged so 40 must be old! Bet shes about 18! Not that she was as bad as one who said it was horribly old - bleeding cheek of the girl!!!
I suppose really being in your 40s means you feel as old as you want to feel. I have days when I am in the gym listening to the Black Eyed Peas thinking I could take on the world - Other days at my sons school I look at the mums of the kids in his class and realise that I could be most of their dads!

| Now That Is What I Call A Challenge! |
I remember that when I was coming towards my 40th birthday I thought that I needed to do something to mark this milestone. As I was interested in the internet and designed websites for others I decided to set up a website celebrating 40th birthdays and here we are today.
I have come to realise that compared to some this was pretty low on the lists of challenges. Especially when you read the blog post of Janette (http://40thingstodo.blogspot.com/).
Janette decided a couple of years ago her life needed a bit of a challenge. She then challenged herself to do 40 different things that she has always wanted to do before she hit that 40th birthday.
Looking at her list she has completed 22 of these and has 4 that are in progress which means that she has not quite got round to kissing Take That, riding a Harley on Ayres Rock or meeting Mr T to name a few.
I dont know how long she has left as I couldnt find her age although I would have said from the picture she has a good few years yet and considering she has already flown over the Grand Canyon, Flown on a trapeze and written a script/story for Dr Who I am sure she will get the list completed.
