40th gifts that will change the world. Now there is a statement. Personally I am not 100% that each of these gifts are likely to change the world but they will still make great 40th birthday gifts for those that like a bit of a gadget. Firefox are a gift retailer that we use that do love to come up with some pretty weird and wonderful gifts. You will not find many personalised cuff link gifts here but if you want something just a little bit different then they are a great company to look at. So here are a few of the gifts that (may just) change the world: Wonkey: The Wonkey is a key shaped piece of silicone that fits on to your keyring and is ready to help out at any time. What does it do I hear you ask. Does it fit in any door to let you in when you have lost your keys? No, it is no use here. What it does is far more important than that. It stops you spilling your pint down the pub! Oh yes we have all had the wonky table. The table that moves each time anybody in the pub comes within 3 feet of it and in the process a good wallop of your pint goes flying. Not any more. Just take the Wonkey off your keyring, push it under the offending table leg and you will have a table you can build a beer mat tower on it will be so stable. What is even better about the Wonkey is that if now, with your beer that never spills you get that drunk that you forget to pick the Wonkey up at the end of the night you can buy another one without breaking the bank. They only cost £4.99. Sound Asleep Pillow: OK, now this is different. A speaker in a nice soft memory foam pillow. all you do is plug your ipod in and listen. This is a great gift if you love listening to music in bed or the telly and as the sound comes from your pillow it muffles so that others in the bed like the partner, dog, whoever, will not be disturbed in the same way as if the telly is blaring away with late night football. Will it change the world? No. Not sure how it can. Will it help you chill on a hot summers day relaxing in a chair by the garden pond? Yes! Starting at under £20 it will not break the bank either! Staying on the subject of sound we then have the: Mighty Boomball Speaker: Now this speaker does not look like much, and that is because it is not meant to be much. It is meant to be something that is small enough to carry around on your keyring or in your pocket. Then... When you need some sounds to brighten up your day ...plug it in to your ipod, phone etc. and then stick it on any empty container. You now have a KICKIN speaker! Speakers are quite straight forward, they are just containers that amplify the vibrations to make noise. The Boomball lets you use any container you want. From the bottom of a coke can, biscuit tin, large box, empty suitcase ...anything. The bigger the empty container, the bigger your sounds. Actually, if you do buy one of these it would be great if you emailed us back to let us know the strangest container you have stuck it on to listen to your music! Perhaps we could build a list of the best things to stick it to for different types of music. Something big and bassy for Rudimental perhaps, something softer for other music. Play with it. And that you can do at a very good price as this little musical masterpiece will only cost you £16.99 and comes in 6 different colours. Will it change the world? I really don't think so. Will it change the way you listen to your ipod? I am going to order one now from them so I will let you know in a later post. Now Firebox sent through 11 suggestions of gifts that might just change the world. Others included an everyday invention kit, a t shirt folder and a couple of chargers. Not likely to change the world even if they are great gifts. But the last is most definitely the one that could be seen as something that may just make a bit of a difference to some people. Especially campers like me. The Biolite Camping Stove: Thanks to a clever and unique design it can cook, heat and even charge your electronic devices just by using renewable biomass such as twigs, pine cones, wood pellets and all the other bits and pieces you find around a campsite or the countryside The stove uses an internal fan to create airflow, which combines with the fuel chamber to create an ultra-efficient combustion fire. The heat generated is converted into electricity using the Power Module which is stored in the lithiumion battery or can be used to charge small electrical devices. Not cheap at £150.00 but altogether a really clever product. So how will this help to change the world I hear you say. Changing the world may be pushing things a little bit but the technology could be taken much further and if by using biomass in the future to heat our homes and businesses along with producing electricity at the same time perhaps we can all become just a little greener which will not be a bad thing.
